MS 2530

Type of Certification: Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil
Certification Scheme: MS 2530 Series
Description:

This Standard covers the areas of operations of the oil palm industry along the whole supply chain comprising independent and organized smallholders, plantations and palm oil mills. It also includes grouping smallholders such as Sustainable Palm Oil Cluster (SPOC) and other group management systems. This certification procedure needs to be adhered to in order to be sustainably certified.

Main Components:

This MSPO Standard contains seven principles which form the general requirements of a management system framework, based on the three pillars of sustainability – economically viable, socially acceptable, and environmentally sound. The MSPO standard is split into four parts: universal: for smallholders; for palm plantations and organised (supported) smallholders; and for palm oil mills. The indicators for each user group vary, although the general principles are the same throughout. These are organised around seven principles that cover: commitment to MSPO, transparency, compliance with laws, social responsibility, environmental protection, best management practices and new plantings. MSPO requires that internal audit procedures and results are documented and evaluated, in order to implement necessary corrective action through continuous improvement action plans.
